Winnipeg Jack Kruschen
Jack lived on a small acreage near Erickson with his wife Pam, sons Robbie and Rodney and daughter Trudy. He was an exemplary community member who was always willing to lend a helping hand even in his declining health. Jack enjoyed bowling, curling and playing bagpipes at family gatherings.
Jack observed three armed individuals carrying a crate towards him through night-vision binoculars. They seemed intent on attacking.
Early Life and Education
Jack is a dedicated family man, cherishing every minute spent with his grandchildren. He holds strong beliefs in community involvement and has participated in various organizations across Winnipeg. For his efforts and contributions to Winnipeg he has received recognition and awards.
Jack began his teaching career at Pilot Mound High School before moving on to Harrison High School in Brandon before retiring in 1989. Since that time, Jack has remained actively involved with both community efforts and education initiatives.
In his later years, he volunteered regularly at Rainbow Stage productions in Polo Park and Portage Place. Additionally, he enjoyed winter getaways to Arizona as well as trips abroad such as Europe and Mexico. Furthermore, for three years he served on the Transcona Springfield school division board of trustees.
Professional Career
Jack had an outstanding career at Manitoba Telephone System and was extremely active in community affairs. He served in various positions within his church as board chairperson, was past member of Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge master, past master, past master of Masonic Lodge as well as volunteering his services with many organizations such as Red Cross. Jack even made 100 blood donations!
Columbus, Ohio native Justin Faulk was selected by the Jets in 2015’s first round, 25th overall, for their inaugural NHL draft and has made an immediate impactful impression since. With his unique skillset and determination he hopes to make a name for himself within the league.
He leaves behind his sons, daughters & grandchildren as well as his siblings Lyall Lalonde of Glenboro Manitoba & Verna Ringrose of Baldur Manitoba as well as many extended family members & friends.
Achievement and Honors
Jack was an exceptional communicator with an infectious sense of humor. Whenever he entered a room, laughter and lively dialogue always ensued. Jack also had the gift of viewing seemingly overwhelming challenges as part of life’s inevitable challenges rather than seething threats that needed overcoming as threats in themselves.
His greatest pride lay with his children Shar and Gerry Mitchell and their spouses Redwan and Marianne; he also took great pleasure in spending time with Sebastian, Colby, Mac and Summer Mitchell – stepgrandchildren from Donna Mitchell. Both loved spending time with family, friends and in their community.
This scholarship was established to remember legendary Winnipeg Blue Bomber quarterback Eddie Osborne who used his exceptional abilities to draw in so many fans that it eventually necessitated construction of Osborne Stadium and allowed other professional football teams across Canada to flourish.
Personal Life
Jack led an enriching life, built upon his love for Kaye, his children and grandchildren, his various interests (bridge, chess and history were his favorites) as well as walking everywhere even during winter weather to share his ideas with others and keep strong. Additionally, he would pump iron to keep his upper body toned while always being there when someone needed his assistance.
Mike was an avid league bowler and curler, as well as playing the bagpipes at family gatherings. A member of Mason and Shriner lodges, Mike enjoyed travelling with his wife to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe and Britain – they formed an unbreakable pair that will be dearly missed by all those who knew them. Mike is survived by sons Michael and Ryan Wolski as well as sister Erna Wolski as well as many nieces and nephews.
