Early Life and Education

Thomas Stager is a dedicated educator who never ceases to amaze and impress audiences with his knowledge and straight talk. His audiences always respond enthusiastically and praise his knowledge as they stand on their feet and cheer along.

At one point, he considered becoming a lawyer but ultimately settled on archaeology after excavating in Israel, according to his daughter Jennifer. Over time he helped uncover Canaanite and Philistine history and helped uncover their lives.

His work is widely hailed as groundbreaking; going beyond physical evidence collection to reconstruct ancient life through textual and material evidence, Joseph Greene of the Semitic Museum describes him as an innovator of his field; Joseph is also fond of remembering him for being an excellent storyteller with an inquisitive mind who had an endless supply of questions for him to explore.

Professional Career

Gary Stager is an esteemed keynote speaker at educational conferences. Additionally, he serves as teacher educator, author of “Invent to Learn: Making, Tinkering and Engineering in the Classroom,” and co-founded Constructing Modern Knowledge summer institute for educators.

His extensive scholarship was the cornerstone of his teaching at both Chicago and Harvard. He pioneered impressive programs that encompassed ancient Near Eastern studies as they intersect with anthropology, classical archaeology, history and religious studies.

Mr. Stager has completed various turnaround assignments at both franchisee and franchisor levels for some of the world’s most recognized brands such as Pizza Hut and Arby’s, including Pizza Hut franchisees and Arby’s franchisees. Prior to that he served as senior vice president and COO for Krystal Restaurants LLC (an operator of restaurants serving square-bun hamburgers).

Achievement and Honors

Tom Stager is an honorary alumni award recipient at Bowling Green State University, receiving it in 2013. In addition, he founded and manages an online collection of textual and multimedia resources dedicated to history and archaeology students.

Stager was charged with assaulting a federal law enforcement officer with a dangerous weapon, and has been sentenced to 52 months of incarceration by a judge on Monday – wearing orange prison clothes while standing before the courtroom judge for sentencing.

He runs a genealogy website where he searches for family members of MyHeritage DNA test takers. With over 100,000 users, his site has provided many people with family reunion. Furthermore, he has contributed scholarly publications and conferences.

Personal Life

Fred Stager will be remembered by his wife Mary, daughter Jill Stager Brooks and two grandchildren; as well as his mother Betty J. Kreider from Palmyra; brother Ronald Stager with wife Sandra of Jonestown; two nephews and three nieces as well as Fred the yellow labrador named Fred who will all share in his burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville.

Stager serves as president of Krystal Restaurants LLC, which was purchased out of bankruptcy by funds managed by Fortress Investment Group and operating partner Golden Child Holdings in May. His efforts have helped rejuvenate Pizza Hut and Arby’s restaurants across the U.S.
