He often handles licensing board and hospital medical staff matters on behalf of physicians, hospitals and management companies – often representing physicians themselves in these matters involving patient deaths or claims of reimbursement for large sums.
Steve provides clients with advice and strategies for wealth transfer using irrevocable life insurance trusts (ILITs), spousal lifetime access trusts and grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs).
Early Life and Education
Steven Wides has distinguished himself in modern American history through teaching, authorship of fifteen books and academic research. As an educational evaluator he lectures frequently about school programs and evaluation. Furthermore, he serves on four professional journals’ editorial boards and was co-editor emeritus of one research section in American Historical Review.
Wides’ expertise includes representing family-owned and closely held businesses in general business matters. He also has experience handling corporate litigation matters as well as intellectual property law cases.
Wides has represented numerous celebrities and sports figures, such as Alex Rodriguez (14-time MLB All-Star and three-time MVP), Carrie Prejean (former Miss California and first runner-up Miss USA), Jeremy Lock (multiple World’s Best Military Photojournalist winner) and the John Wayne family.

Additionally, Steven is an experienced labor and employment lawyer with national practice defending companies from class action claims of discrimination based on race, age, gender, sexual orientation pregnancy religion disability among other protected classes.
He provides legal representation for clients involved in complex business and corporate matters such as mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, joint ventures and other transactions that focus on tax planning structure. He works regularly with companies and entrepreneurs from Catapult Chicago with various financing arrangements such as convertible note financings, SAFE financings, venture capital investments and angel investments as well as general litigation matters.

Wides is also an accomplished travel and music writer, hosting a British Music radio show and publishing books on music icons. Wides and his wife Michelle Mackintosh share an interest in Japan; together they published Tokyo Kyoto Osaka Pocket Precincts Guidebook series which won an awards design. Each year they visit this nation.
Steven has represented firms as both outside counsel and compliance officers before all major US financial services regulators, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (formerly NASD and NYSE), Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (FinCEN) as well as federal banking and antitrust agencies. In addition, Steven has conducted multiple banking mergers and acquisitions transactions.
He has extensive experience handling civil litigation matters for both small businesses and large national corporations in commercial, employment and intellectual property litigation, representing clients in wage and hour disputes as well as discrimination, retaliation and trade secret disputes.
As a community leader, he serves on the board of Access Justice Brooklyn – one of the premier organizations in New York City providing legal help to people and families who cannot afford an attorney – as well as mentoring young lawyers and law students.
