Early Life and Education

Steven Kass is an Elder Law specialist. Currently serving as a Berger Family Fellow at Florida International University College of Business’s Sharon and Mitchell W. Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic; previously working with Jorden Burt Carlton Fields firm.

Kass was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. After graduating from Pace University Law School he started practicing law shortly thereafter in 1993 and soon after became involved with consulting for wellness organizations as well as writing various articles related to his field.

Steve Kass was the founder and owner of American Leisure in 1967 before selling it to First Service for $155 Million in 2015. Subsequently he established Steve Kass Consulting which specialized in conceptualizing and designing wellness and spa facilities.

Professional Career

Kass has extensive experience representing corporate, public, and governmental entities on matters involving environmental impact statements, permitting, zoning, hazardous substance claims, land use disputes and international environmental law issues. In his professional career he has written extensively on international environmental law issues.

He is a member of the New York City Bar Association and has lectured at numerous universities such as Brooklyn Law School, Pace University and NYU’s Center for Global Affairs. Additionally, he has served on multiple committees and task forces within NYCBA.

He founded American Leisure in 1967 as a world-renowned firm offering consultancy, design, and operations advice for wellness, spa and fitness facilities. After selling it to First Service in 2015, Steve Kass Consulting was launched and now specializes in consulting for professional service firms.

Kass’s business, American Leisure, specializes in designing wellness facilities like spas and fitness clubs while also offering concierge services. American Leisure recently merged with Abigail Michaels Concierge to form LivUnLtd.

Mr. Kass is currently Global Chairman of AGN International and sits on both their board and Audit Committee at Sun Bancorp, Inc. He also sits on Peapack-Gladstone Bank’s board as Audit Committee Chair and holds a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University.

Personal Life

Kass has done more than his legal career: in addition to serving as an early rock and roll DJ and performing with musical group the Love Larks, he has studied human factors as they pertain to distracted driving and studied the effects of distraction on situation awareness while driving.

Kass currently serves on the boards of directors at StoneX Group Inc and Peapack-Gladstone Bank, in addition to providing consulting services to professional service firms with expertise in leadership, organizational culture, business strategy and human capital issues. He spent 33 years at Rothstein Kass before it was acquired by KPMG in June 2014.
