Early Life and Education
Hornstein, a veterinarian by trade, is also an accomplished author and researcher specializing in issues of polarization and extremism. Her findings are regularly cited by lawmakers and briefed to policy, security, education and intelligence agencies both domestically and abroad.
Her new book, Myth and Menagerie: Encountering Lions in Nineteenth-Century Art, examines various encounters between artists, their audiences and lions that took place across salon exhibitions, studio spaces and circus menageries during the nineteenth century.
He lives in Tarzana with his wife Bryna and two children Ethan and Ella. His interests include astronomy, impressionist and modern art as well as cooking. Additionally, he enjoys riding his Ridley Fenix SL bicycle year-round to work and is an avid sports fan who especially enjoys participating in 5k races with his family in order to raise funds for important charitable causes.

Specializing in guiding organizations through the complex process of planning and building endowments, as well as working with individuals on their legacy planning needs, he excels in leading teams through successful results.
He is a graduate of Brandeis University’s Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program, which offers an intensive 21-month master’s degree that integrates academic study with field experiences and international opportunities. He is committed to Jewish life, education, and world repair.
At Release Recovery, he serves as program coordinator. Since 2015 he has been in recovery and uses this experience to assist his clients in reaching their goals. His specialty lies in working with young people in recovery and college students alike as well as helping all his clients adjust to life within New York’s recovery community.
Achievement and Honors
Hornstein has not only dedicated himself to research and innovation but has also shown his service to his community through Curt’s Cafe, an organization providing workforce and life skills training for at-risk youth. Furthermore, he currently sits as a judge in New York City Criminal Court.
Hornstein serves on the board of directors for Long Island University and leads its Hornstein Center for Policy, Polling and Analysis; studies produced there inform public audiences and policy makers alike on various pressing issues.
Hornstein and Frieda Hershman share a passion for Jewish life, education, and tikkun olam. Both of them are also active philanthropists who support a variety of local and national causes – they love astronomy, impressionist/modern art as well as cooking!

Their GCA Credit Opportunities Master Fund specializes in long/short corporate credit investments across high yield bonds, investment grade debt as well as distressed debt; also trading credit derivatives and equity instruments (such as credit indices and ETFs).
As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed attorney, Certified Financial Planner and possessor of Series 7 and 63 securities licenses; in California he also holds insurance licenses; his focus shifts between law and financial services during tax season to estate planning after that season concludes in April.
