Early Life and Education

Early in his life, Steve Orskovich was an aspiring artist. Growing up in Butte and inspired by its history, he started working in coal mines to support his family, ultimately dropping out of high school to do so. Later enlisting with the army to serve during World War II.

Oreskovich is a 13-year veteran of the Upper Darby police force and an integral member of their SWAT team. Additionally, he has participated in community outreach programs including mentoring fifth graders and DUI enforcement operations.

Steve Oreskovich leaves behind his wife Theresa of Bruceton Mills; son Mark and Julie (deceased) Oreskovich of Fairmont; brother Mike Oreskovich from Portland; numerous nieces and nephews as well as Charles and Debbie Davis of Fairmont who assisted with his care during his last years.

Professional Career

Oreskovich revived his ambition of playing professionally after taking two years off, attending Florida Panthers training camp for 2009-10 season and joining their American Hockey League affiliate Rochester Americans team.

He made his NHL debut that year and spent the following two seasons between both teams, providing an energetic checking presence while playing a physical brand of hockey.

Steve joined Waystar after its formation through the merger between Navicure and ZirMed in 2017. Prior to that he served as Chief Financial Officer at Merge Healthcare (an IBM company) before holding various finance roles at Truis, Inc. and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP – where he earned both his Bachelor’s of Accounting from Marquette University and licensed CPA certification.

Achievement and Honors

Merge Technologies of Milwaukee announced Oreskovich was appointed controller and chief accounting officer. In this capacity, he will manage all aspects of accounting and finance within the organization as well as serve as controller of Newtek Merchant Solutions of Wisconsin a business services provider.

Oreskovich is a strong-skating winger known for his aggressive forecheck and excellent faceoff skills. He has played on both teams he’s been part of; attending training camp with Avalanche and then being assigned to Lake Erie (AHL), while previously joining Canucks organization.

Personal Life

Oreskovich returned to Notre Dame after two years away from hockey to complete his finance degree during his rookie year with Kitchener Rangers and signed his first NHL contract with Florida Panthers shortly thereafter.

He is an active member of Menoher Post #155 VFW and Western Post 954 Catholic War Vets; additionally he served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

She was an exemplary mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Gma), living life to its fullest with curiosity, adventure, travel, art and music being passions of hers. An avid reader who greatly appreciated company from both family and friends; she will be missed.

At Waystar, a technology company, Oreskovich is currently employed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In this capacity, he oversees finance and accounting functions, investor relations and creditor relations as well as investor/creditor relations. Prior to that he held key financial roles at Merge Healthcare (a public healthcare IT company) as well as Truis Inc and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Oreskovich was selected 55th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by Colorado Avalanche. After college hockey at Notre Dame and Kitchener Rangers of major junior Ontario Hockey League. Following two-years away from professional hockey he returned in 2009, signing with Florida Panthers before being transferred back and forth between them and their AHL affiliate, Rochester Americans; eventually being traded over to Vancouver Canucks.
