Steve Leahy
Steve Leahy serves as Washington state director for America’s Edge, an advocacy organization which advocates for strategic investments in high-quality early learning and project-based experiential project learning for school age children. From 2001 until 2009 he served as president and CEO of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce.
Leahy is also an accomplished writer, contributing articles to National Geographic, The Guardian, Vice, among other publications. Additionally, he enjoys travelling and sports-watching.
Early Life and Education
He has worked as both a New York City taxi driver and Airbus salesman, sleeping on planes between calls while turning down invitations to play golf for being too time consuming.
He is a frequent media contributor, having been interviewed by National Geographic, BBC, The Atlantic and Vice News among others. Additionally, he has received several fellowships and awards for his efforts.
As a leader in community development and public affairs, Leahy has built strong relationships with elected officials at local, state, and federal levels. In 2021, he spearheaded efforts to bring women’s rowing into one of the premier mid-major conferences – Colonial Athletic Association. This has expanded Monmouth University’s competitiveness and visibility.
Professional Career
Steve Leahy’s journalistic and photographic work spans from environmental sustainability to social justice issues, with work appearing in National Geographic and other top publications. As a pictorialist – someone who tells stories through images – Steve considers himself an engaging storyteller through his pictures.
He established and served as executive director of Business Volunteers for the Arts, providing pro bono management consulting services to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations. After college he taught high school English and journalism in Illinois and Michigan before founding BVA.
Leahy currently serves the Seattle College District by overseeing their government relations activities on local, state, and federal levels. Additionally, he serves as Washington State Director for America’s Edge; an advocacy organization which advocates for investments in quality early learning experiences for children through experiential project-based education.

As the inaugural chair of Bridgwater Chamber, Steve committed significant personal effort and energy toward expanding the Chamber’s role within Sedgemoor business community. Through his drive and ambition, its growth became evident.
Leahy is an award-winning environmental journalist whose work has appeared in National Geographic, the Guardian and Vice. His journalism earned him numerous honors including receiving the Prince Albert/United Nations Global Prize as well as US and European fellowships.
As Washington state director for America’s Edge, an organization of business leaders dedicated to supporting business growth by investing in children, he also serves on the boards of Leadership Tomorrow and Enterprise Seattle and is an adjunct economics professor at Strayer College in Seattle.
Personal Life
Leahy is married to Marcelle Pomerleau and together they share two sons as well as five grandchildren living on a tree farm in Middlesex, Vermont.
He serves on both the Senate Judiciary Committee and Appropriations Subcommittee on State Department, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs; vice chairing each.
