Early Life and Education
As a teenager, Lavey decided to drop out of high school to explore more meaningful pursuits. Reportedly he worked as a cage boy and lion tamer performing dangerous stunts with big cats before turning to organ music as his source of support in nightclubs.
Lavey amassed a following and established the Church of Satan on April 30, 1966 – to coincide with Walpurgisnacht, an ancient Christian festival celebrating witchcraft. He chose this date so his headquarters, known as The Black House, could host rituals frequently attended by scantily clad women.
Press distortion and harassment from the public forced Lavey’s organization underground, though he occasionally surfaced to spread his message. He made appearances on numerous talk shows as well as publishing books such as Satan Speaks!, The Satanic Bible and Satanic Rituals.
Steve Lavey is not only known for his impressive professional experience but is also a passionate philanthropist and volunteer. He currently serves as interim CFO and COO for a Chicago start-up philanthropic technology firm that connects large charities with project management services, while serving on the Board of Directors of his US 501(c)(3) public charity which he established and leads.
At Dakota Beef LLC, he co-founded and invested. Dakota Beef provides organic beef to Costco across the country and his extensive corporate finance, operations, and leadership experience has given him unparalleled experience leading fast growing publicly-traded companies as well as private equity portfolio companies in waste services, freight & logistics and asset management industries.
Since 1984, he has served as an adjunct professor at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD), teaching thousands of students from around the globe. Under his tutelage, MIAD’s 3-D lab has become one of the best educational shops in America.
