Love For Liam – A GoFundMe Event to Help the 8-Year-Old With Severe Combined Immune Deficiency

Liam Doxsee has severe combined immunodeficiency and has been admitted to hospitals since birth; doctors believe reconstructive surgery could provide him with relief.

Early Life and Education

Liam Doxsee was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency just five days old, making him vulnerable to infections that required multiple trips to a pediatric intensive care unit. Now 8-year-old Liam from Coal Valley requires reconstructive surgery in order to open up his lymphatic system.

His family believes insurance will cover only part of the costs, so they’re hosting a benefit in January to raise enough funds.

After our story aired on KWQC, the family received word that their insurer will cover surgery for their son. While pre-surgery expenses and medical debt remain outstanding, mom Mary Matheson said they were overjoyed about this development.

Professional Career

KWQC has been helping an Illinois family raise funds to assist Liam Doxsee with his surgical needs, an 8-year-old suffering from severe combined immune deficiency. Liam needs an operation, but due to plastic surgeon restrictions his insurance won’t cover it; so Liam’s family are hosting a benefit known as Love for Liam on Jan 15 at The Rock in Coal Valley.

COAL VALLEY, Illinois – An 8-year-old from Quad Cities area will finally undergo surgery thanks to his family setting up a GoFundMe and hosting a benefit. Liam Doxsee was diagnosed at five days old with severe combined immune deficiency disorder that prevents him from fighting infections; thus leading him back and forth from hospitals since birth.

Mary Matheson says his lymphedema in his leg increased his risk for infection and sepsis as well as limited his mobility, making him vulnerable to bullying.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie; daughters Jennifer (Lance) Leslie of Bettendorf and Sara Doxsee of East Moline; granddaughters Devin, Jack and Raegan Leslie as well as grandson Nolan Doxsee from both daughters; as well as his brother Ronnie Coulter; sister Mary (Spud) Young from Viola with half-brothers Jerry Young and Spud Young as half-brothers – plus nephews and nieces.
