John Stinnett was born on April 3, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Elmer Jackson Stinnett and Frances Alice Kern Stinnett Duff.
Since 2008, he had been a resident of Cedaredge. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family members, particularly his nieces and nephews.
In his free time, he enjoyed dancing, traveling and following politics. Additionally, he read his bible while watching Baylor football games.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville and is survived by his wife Peggy and several siblings.
Stinnett is an accomplished professional who balances work and play seamlessly. When not at work, he enjoys taking time out for an evening on the town – enjoying a nice bottle of wine and an exquisite dinner at one of London’s fine dining establishments. Stinnett is a regular at Crescent Oaks Golf Club and has been playing Wentworth for some time now. Despite his recent medical setbacks, Stinnett remains one of the most positive, upbeat and down to earth people you will ever meet. He enjoys golfing, fishing and being a true family man at heart. At home he runs the family business – Stinnett Insurance Agency. A proud alumnus of Franklin University with an MBA, he holds firm to the notion that money may not always be earned but never wasted.

His achievements and honors include serving as President of the University of Oklahoma Student Association, receiving both the OSU Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award and Extension Teacher of the Year awards, being honored with both Oklahoma and national Epsilon Sigma Phi Friends of Extension Awards in 2020, receiving both Oklahoma DASNR Distinguished Alumni Award in 2016 and receiving OSU Agricultural Education Graduate of Distinction Award in 1998.
John was a man of deep faith and immensely proud of his Christian convictions. He read the Bible daily, and had been an active member in the First United Methodist Church in Huntsville for many years.
He enjoyed dancing and traveling, especially visiting his many longtime friends. A huge admirer of Baylor football and the Dallas Cowboys, he had a wide variety of interests outside football.
John began his private dental practice in Dallas, Texas and continued there until late 1972 when he relocated to what was then the Panama Canal Zone in Central America. John and his family had many exciting adventures during their time there; John’s general dentistry skillset allowed him to do just about any dental work needed; however, during this period he focused mainly on orthodontics – giving many people beautiful smiles!
Author Stinnett has held a variety of jobs throughout his life, such as deckhand, commercial fisherman, dive master, taxi driver and construction manager.
Author Stinnett eventually achieved success as a novelist, publishing his first book in 2013 from short stories written during the 1980s.
