John Stinger has been exhibiting his paintings for many years and was renowned for his stunning impressionistic landscapes of the tri-state area. Now, John is taking his painting skills to new heights by creating editorial cartoons.

He has also recently published The Lighter Side of Collecting by Tanner Publishing, with the purpose of adding some lightheartedness to the often depressing world of antiques and collectibles collecting.

Early Life and Education

John Stinger was born in New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania to an artistic family and developed an appreciation for art from an early age. As the youngest member of their extended family, Stinger had plenty of opportunities to express himself creatively throughout his formative years.

He was an accomplished artist whose paintings are collected by corporations, institutions, galleries and individual collectors around the world. With over four decades of experience under his belt as a painter, he achieved worldwide recognition for his artwork.

In addition to his passion for painting, he also has an intense interest in history. This can be seen through his artwork which draws inspiration from American landscapes and architecture.

John studied painting and commercial art at the School of Industrial Arts, located on the banks of the Delaware River in Trenton, NJ. During his tenure there, he won first prize in an art contest with his painting entitled “They Dug Too Deep,” which depicted a prehistoric winged dragon being brought back from its slumber by river dredging.

Professional Career

John Stinger was a professional ice hockey center for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks who was renowned for his accuracy in hitting more than half of his shots. As such, he earned himself the nickname “John Stinger”.

He is an accomplished artist, specializing in Pennsylvania and New Jersey landscapes, rivers, and snow scenes. Additionally, he enjoys painting various subjects such as portraits and still lifes.

He lives in a picturesque stone farm house near the Delaware River with his wife Susanne. Their home and studio is encircled by flowering trees, an inviting stream and their black and gray Schnoodle Cody.

John Stinger is a Stewartsville artist who has painted numerous landscapes throughout Bucks County. Additionally, his artwork has been shown at exhibitions in Philadelphia, Allentown, Bethlehem and other New Jersey cities.

He has won several awards for his paintings, including first prize in a painting competition held in Bucks County and top honors in an oil painting contest sponsored by Warren County executives.

He has also been accepted into the esteemed Los Angeles Institute (LAI), an elite group of international landscape painters that select members based on professionalism. Recently back from Los Angeles where Jeremy Lipking, a renowned realist, taught him his craft; only accepting a select few students per year.

John Stinger lives amidst the beauty of an open valley filled with farmland, flowering trees and a bubbling stream. His loyal dog Cody – a black and gray Schnoodle – is always by his side as they explore this breathtaking landscape together.

He is an accomplished contemporary impressionistic painter whose style evolved while living in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The area is renowned for its vibrant painting history and the influence of the Pennsylvania Impressionists was a major inspiration in creating his art.

In 2012, John discovered his old model Stinger – a 1/10th scale AC-119K aircraft built in the early 1970s that still floated but hadn’t been used for 40 years.
