John Previti – Award-Winning Bassist

John Previti is an award-winning bassist who has collaborated with some of music’s greatest guitarists. He’s performed alongside Paul Simon, Herb Ellis, Doc Cheatham, Buddy Emmons and Les Paul to name a few.

His latest project, The Evenin’ News, is an energetic and soulful combination of melody and harmony – Will’s smooth lead vocal and baritone, Danny’s sharp tenor voice, and John’s stunning high-baritone.

Early Life and Education

John Previti was raised in Southern Maryland-DC, immersed in an array of music styles such as swing, country, jazz, R&B and rockabilly. It was here that he found his calling as a bassist and soon began wowing audiences with his showmanship.

He has collaborated with some of the greatest musicians in the business, such as guitarist Danny Gatton. But his most remarkable accomplishment was creating the Anacostia Delta documentary which became a must-watch for local music enthusiasts. Furthermore, John Previti Memorial Foundation recently donated one million dollars to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital to name their new learning center the John P. Previti Memorial Foundation Learning Center for hospitalized critically and chronically ill children. With this money they will provide K – 12 education resources and instruction to those affected by critical and chronic illness.

Professional Career

Previti founded Frontier Enterprises in 2002 and since has overseen its remarkable growth. Under his direction, the company has become one of the country’s top builders.

In 2009, his brother James founded The Previti Memorial Foundation to give grants to non-profit organizations that offer at-risk youth opportunities for success, build communities and assist those affected by substance abuse. It has funded houses of worship; community centers; educational institutions; high schools; as well as national organizations that help revitalize neighborhoods.

John Previti, a bassist, began his professional career in 1976 with Danny Gatton and later collaborated with many renowned jazz artists such as Charlie Byrd, Doc Cheatham, Herb Ellis and Paul Simon. Since its inception he has performed in Concerts in the Park series alongside Brooks Tegler, Barry Hart, Kenneth Naito and Noelle Naito.

Additionally, he’s involved with 1789 Society, Friends of Georgetown Rowing and Jesuit Mission & Identity Committee; plus, he enjoys golfing, hiking and playing guitar – for which he serves as host on WOWD 94.3 radio show DC Roots: Guitar Edition. Furthermore, he works part-time at University of Maryland School of Music in Baltimore as a guitar instructor.

Personal Life

John Previti was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. For 19 years he served in the Suffolk University Police Department as part of their security force. A Medford native, John graduated from both Medford high school and college with distinction.

John Previti, a philanthropist at heart, founded the John Previti Memorial Foundation in 2009 to commemorate his late brother – a dedicated law enforcement officer. Their most recent donation of $1 million to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital will make an enormous impact in fighting pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. As hospitals across America struggle to meet patients’ needs, this foundation is making an immense difference by joining forces with local charities and organizations on a grand scale.

Jim Previti has achieved great success in the construction industry, amassing an impressive net worth through his company Frontier Enterprises, which builds new homes for first-time homebuyers, families and seniors throughout Southern California. Additionally, Jim provides philanthropic support through the Previti Foundation; grants are given to nonprofit organizations that promote new beginnings, family unity and community involvement.

For instance, the foundation recently donated $100,000 to Cedar House Life Change Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
