John Nostrant has been a coach for over two decades and is widely considered one of the country’s greatest coaches. With hundreds of games won and multiple national championships under his belt, Nostrant is widely considered one of the best coaches in America today.

After his tenure with Haverford School, he has made the move to Gilman where he will serve as head lacrosse coach and bring his expertise and experience. With such a prestigious background, he can make an immediate difference through his knowledge and skillset.

Early Life and Education

It is during these early years that socialization skills, self-esteem and positive perceptions begin to emerge.

Children’s early development is greatly shaped by their relationships with teachers, parents and caregivers. That is why having a strong school-family partnership is so essential.

National’s BAECE program equips students with the ability to engage children in active learning through classroom activities and field experiences, according to program coordinator Maribel Alvarado. She emphasizes that this component of the curriculum is essential as it gives them hands-on experience within a real classroom setting.

Professional Career

John Nostrant was a three-time All-American midfielder for Washington College and also earned two All-Pro selections with the Philadelphia Wings and Baltimore Thunder. Additionally, he served as head coach of The Haverford School for 28 years.

Throughout his career, he won more than 400 games and earned 36 high school All-Americans. Additionally, he amassed 13 Inter-Ac championships as well as 4 state titles.

Nostrant is the head coach of men’s lacrosse at Washington College, his alma mater. In each of his first three seasons as the Fords’ coach, he has won the Western Division title.

He has elevated his Fords into a team to watch in the Inter-Ac, as they are 14-3 and nationally ranked – plus, they’re considered the best team in Pennsylvania.

Achievements and Honors

John Nostrant was a three-time NCAA Division III All-American midfielder and an integral part of three national runner up teams during his four years at Washington College. Additionally, he earned two All-Pro lacrosse selections to the Philadelphia Wings and Baltimore Thunder.

He served as head coach of The Haverford School for 28 years and director of athletics for 22 years, leading their teams to 13 Inter-Ac regular-season championships, four Inter-Ac tournament titles and two state titles.

Coach Nostrant stressed the value of team bonding and time away from the field. He often looked to his coaches, such as Kevin Giblin at Gilman, Dave Metzbower at Penn and Mike Murphy at Gilman for guidance and resources.

Personal Life

John Nostrant is an experienced, respected high school and college coach. A three-time All-American at Washington College and former professional lacrosse player for the Philadelphia Wings, Nostrant has coached countless high school All-Americans as well.

As Haverford School’s head lacrosse coach, Nostrant has guided his teams to two undefeated national championships and 16 Inter-Ac titles. With 488 victories under his belt, Haverford has cemented itself as a force in college lacrosse while producing numerous future All-Americans.

Nostrant will be inducted into the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association (NILCA) Hall of Fame tonight, joining fellow coaches Kevin Giblin, Brendan Dawson and Ted Wolford for induction into the class of 2022.
