John McCrary

John McCrary was a writer who was known for his work on the New York Daily Mirror. He was a columnist and later the paper’s chief editorial writer.

He was stabbed to death outside of Shenanigans nightclub in Huntsville on December 30th. Cody Ray Walters is accused of stabbing McCrary and is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

Early Life and Education

John McCrary grew to manhood in the state of Ohio. In his boyhood he spent his time at the labors of the farm and in attendance at the common schools, where he soon acquired an education to suit the purpose for which he was formed.

He was a self made man, gaining honor and success by his own exertions. In his early life he manifested the desire to acquire a knowledge of the language of this country and through his efforts, and that of his father, he secured the money necessary to continue his studies in the Troy Academy of Davis County, and at length entered the Iowa State University, where he obtained his first and second degrees.

He has continued in the pursuit of learning and in the service of humanity throughout his long life. He is a man of no mean accomplishment, and will be deservedly honored.

Professional Career

John McCrary was an experienced professional in a variety of fields. He was a consultant and asset manager with a focus on traditional and alternative investments, quantitative valuation, risk management and financial software.

During his career, he was involved in over $350 million of multifamily property transactions in the Gulf South markets. He was also responsible for the brokerage of multifamily assets in Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

He is currently a member of Newmark Realty Group, a commercial real estate firm.

A former wrestling coach, McCrary helped his students reach their athletic potential, which he takes great satisfaction in. Ghobadpoor and Hand praised McCrary’s no-nonsense coaching style, which emphasized accepting responsibility for one’s own actions.

Achievements and Honors

John McCrary has received many awards and honors for his contributions to society. He has been a member of the Navy Seabees for over 26 years and has served in three wars. He has also been active in the science, technology and education fields.

He has been a member of the National Association of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NABCCE) since 2006. In 2011, he was named a Fellow of NABCCE, an honor given to individuals who have demonstrated a dedication to diversity and mentoring.

He has also been named a Black Engineer of the Year, one of the top honors awarded at the NABCCE annual conference. Currently, McCrary serves as the Science and Technology Business Area executive at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md.

Personal Life

McCrary was an American journalist and public relations specialist who popularized the talk show genre for television and radio along with his wife, Jinx Falkenburg. They had two radio programs and a daily television program, as well as a newspaper column.

A three-time World War II veteran, he fought in Alaska and Korea and was involved in the Tet offensive in Vietnam. He was also active in Republican politics.

In 1951 McCrary and Falkenburg flew to Paris to persuade General Dwight D. Eisenhower to run for president, and he helped to organize the campaign.

His mother, Larisa McCrary is supportive of her son’s dreams. In fact, she even helped him pursue his passion for music.

JD McCrary has provided the voice of young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King film, which opened in 2019. He is also a singer and dancer who is signed to Hollywood Records.

He was arrested and held in custody for not paying child support but was released two hours after he paid the entire amount owed. He also founded the FathersCare organization, a non-profit dedicated to empowering fathers with education and assistance to improve their relationships with their children.
