After graduating his undergraduate studies in biology at Berkeley and medical school at Stanford, Kroes joined the family practice team of Palo Alto Medical Foundation where he provided care to patients of all ages and backgrounds. Additionally, he taught at Stanford as a clinical assistant professor within the Department of Family Medicine.
In 2016, after leaving the commission, Kroes took on a paid advisory role with ride-hailing company Uber. She then allegedly pressured a Dutch minister to stop an investigation into Uber’s Amsterdam office due to leaked documents.
On Thursday, the European Commission said it would send a letter to Kroes asking whether she broke EU regulations by lobbying on behalf of ride-hailing company Uber during her “cooling off” period following her tenure as commissioner. This comes amid an uptick in nationalist parties and attempts to rebuild trust after Britain voted to leave the European Union.
