Brinegar is a native of Lawrence county, Indiana and his parents Henry and Jane moved by ox team to Otter Creek township in Lucas county.
Early Life and Education
John Brinegar was born on January 23, 1849 in Lawrence County, Indiana to Henry and Eliza (Dennis) Brinegar.
At around six years old, his family relocated to Otter Creek township, Lucas county, Iowa. There they cleared a tract of virgin soil and began breaking it up and cultivating it.
He was raised in poverty and hardship. This equipped him with the determination to succeed and fight for what is right.
After graduating high school, John attended Chapman College in Los Angeles and eventually earned a teaching credential. In 1941 he and his wife married; she worked as both a homemaker and substitute teacher while he served in World War II.
Professional Career
Brinegar has had an enviable career. He began in finance but soon after switched to pursue his passion for healthcare – currently working at Bellevue Hospital’s surgical intensive care unit.
Through his career, he has been an enthusiastic supporter of local civic and cultural institutions. For instance, he helped establish the American Cancer Society’s Blue Ribbon campaign and has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in both monetary and in-kind donations to this organization.
He has also made a significant impact in technology as one of the founding members of PEAK Resources, an elite systems integrator. As CEO and part-owner, he has overseen PEAK’s transition from an analog data center to a fully automated modern enterprise data center.
