John Bottrell has lived with asthma most of his life. Diagnosed in 1972, it wasn’t well controlled during much of his childhood but thanks to advances in medicine and research he is now in excellent control as an adult.

Early Life and Education

Bottrell was born in Long Beach, California and earned both a bachelor’s degree in science and master’s degree in business administration from UCLA.

He worked as a freelance engineer between Europe and Los Angeles during the 1980s. Additionally, Michael Jackson visited him at his Encino home between 1984 and 1986 to record tracks for Bad.

In 1990, he established Tuesday Night Music Club – a musical “think tank”. One of its stars was Sheryl Crow, who went on to win the 1995 Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

Professional Career

John Bottrell is a licensed respiratory therapist and has lived with asthma most of his life. He blogs about his profession at Respiratory Therapy Cave and also runs another blog where he examines the historical context of various respiratory conditions, such as asthma and COPD.
