John Amboian

Amboian is an industry advisor to Madison Dearborn Partners and a senior advisor at Estancia Capital, a middle market private equity fund with a focus on financial services. He also serves as a board member of North Square Investments, a boutique asset management firm in Chicago.

Amboian also sits on the boards of several private investment companies and advises several small businesses on organic and inorganic growth initiatives through JA Capital Advisors, LLC. He was previously a director at Nuveen Mutual Funds.

Leadership

john amboian has been a great leader and helped build Nuveen Investments into one of the largest mutual fund companies in the world. He is known for his ability to successfully lead through mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions. He served as the CEO of Nuveen Investments from 2007 through 2016.

The most impressive business of all is probably the TIAA (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of New York) deal that he helped make happen.

John Amboian has more than 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital management, product development, branding and distribution for both public and private companies. He joined Nuveen Investments in 1995 as CFO, becoming Chairman and CEO in 2007.

He has participated in over 20 M&A and capital markets transactions, guiding the firm through its sale process to TIAA (Teacher’s Insurance and Annuity Association) in 2014 and numerous other public and private transactions. He also served on the board of Nuveen Mutual Funds and on the Nuveen Investments public board.

Currently, he is an Independent Director of Adams Street Partners, a leading private-market investment firm and an industry advisor to Madison Dearborn Partners. He is also a Senior Advisor to Estancia Capital, a middle market private equity fund with a focus on financial services and Chairman of North Square Investments, a multi-boutique asset management firm in Chicago. He serves on the boards of several civic and not-for-profit organizations in the Chicago area.

Investment Management
