Pauly Michaelis, a self-professed Jack Daniel’s fan who recently went viral for posting about its 2021 advertising campaign featuring drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race, made waves when she posted to Facebook that the brand “went woke.”

Early Life and Education

Collection includes correspondence, libretti, ephemera, negatives, photographs, sheet music brochures flyers programs scrapbooks and other miscellaneous materials relating to Standard Oil music broadcasts as well as Michaelis’ personal biography and work as a musician for Standard Oil’s music broadcasts. A small portion of materials are biographical or personal while most relate directly to Michaelis’ musical broadcast work for Standard Oil.

Michaelis created and directed both shows. They represent one of the first corporate donations made to arts programs in America.

Michaelis was also responsible for helping the San Francisco Symphony remain financially solvent during 1926, when his company gifted it $10,000 – one of the earliest corporate gifts ever given to arts. Michaelis continued supporting this orchestra until his death in 1955, often serving as “star finder”. During this period he promoted such musicians as Claramae Turner, Dorothy Warenskjold Raymond Manton and Paulena Carter’s careers.

Professional Career

Michaelis has also taught Advanced Acting (Shakespeare: Text Study & Performance) at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City. Additionally, he is father to Jacqueline (Brad McClure) Michaelis of Scottsbluff and Pamela Nuesca-Frueh of Scottsbluff and grandfather to Jennifer, Josiah and Alex Michaelis as well as Amanda, Brad, Shelbie Michalelis of Scottsbluff.

Michaelis has scored five goals and eight assists for Minnesota State this season, ranking third on their scoring chart. Twice during this campaign he has been honored as WCHA Player of the Week while twice becoming WCHA Scholar-Athlete. Originally hailing from Mannehim, Germany; Michaelis now ranks 23rd all-time among Mavericks history with 37 goals scored and 87 points accrued across 87 games; in addition, he has made four national team appearances.

Achievement and Honors

Jack Michaelis was not only renowned as an NCAA athlete, but he was also an impressive academic. A graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor’s degree with honors ranked among the top 25 percent of his class he achieved cum laude status – an exceptional honor indeed!

He was an accomplished leader, initiating and organizing a cancer survivor support group and overseeing fundraising for new pool house and bleachers at Harbor High School. Additionally, he was an avid sports fan supporting UNO Mavericks, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Royals teams.

Michaelis achieved something that few had ever managed: leading both the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) in scoring and power play points nationwide; as well as earning All-Conference honors within this rare feat.

Personal Life

Jim enjoyed spending his free time hunting and farming his land at Lake Minatare. Jim was an active member of Mohawk Hunt Club as well as several farming associations. Additionally, he enjoyed riding Harley motorcycles, participating in many charity motorcycle rallies including Sturgis.

Michaelis died February 9 at 70, leaving behind her husband Chuck; children Tom and Kristina, Casey and Shylea, Joe, Melissa and 8 grandchildren: Alex, Mikaela, Jack Brianna Colby Carter Lia Kelsey along with brother Dick Cashman as well as many nieces and nephews.

Recently, an image of Michaelis wearing glasses and mirror from Jack Daniel’s was shared online and met with conservative outrage similar to that seen with Bud Light partnering with transgender influencers.
