Greg Adams serves as chair and CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals (commonly referred to as Kaiser Permanente), one of America’s premier integrated healthcare providers and not-for-profit health plans.
Adams has become an industry-renowned champion of health care transformation and access improvement. Focusing on expanding membership while simultaneously expanding access and affordability for members, Adams spearheads comprehensive efforts aimed at growing membership within her organization while expanding access to care.
Early Life and Education
Greg Adams was raised in rural Georgia with an intense passion for social justice. His family encouraged him to make an impactful difference, encouraging him to pursue a career path that could alter society for the better.
Mr. Williams earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oglethorpe University before going on to earn his Master of Nursing Administration at Wichita State University. Before transitioning into senior executive roles at health care provider Kaiser Permanente, Mr. Williams worked in Atlanta at Crawford Long Hospital’s emergency department before receiving both degrees.
Adams joined Kaiser Permanente as a senior vice president in 1999, eventually serving as regional president for Northern California in 2008 before being elevated to executive vice president and group president in 2016. Adams is leading Kaiser’s efforts at expanding membership, improving affordability and expanding access to care.
Professional Career
Gregory Adams has over three decades of experience leading health care systems. Since 1999, he has been with Kaiser Permanente.
Before joining Kaiser, Adams served as President and CEO of a health care consulting firm, where his primary goal was to enhance patient care. As an experienced leader with an eye toward continuous improvement of care delivery.
Adams also serves as a community college trustee, being on the boards of Central, Mid-Plains and Northeast Community Colleges.
Adams served on the Lenawee County Community Mental Health Authority (LCHMA) board and was an outspoken proponent for mental health services in Lenawee County. Additionally, he led efforts in organizing E-Race the Stigma Run as an annual fundraising event that provided mental health care in Lenawee.
Achievement and Honors
Greg Adams has long been considered an authority on sustainable forest management. For the past 25 years, he has served as silviculture manager at J.D. Irving Limited and spearheaded their tree improvement program.
Adams has received multiple accolades for his contributions in forestry, most recently winning the New Brunswick Professional Forester Achievement Award for his services rendered to his community.
Since 2016, he has also served as a trustee of Muskingum University. Aside from working on campus, he enjoys gardening as well as hiking and skiing.
