Early Life and Education
George Saribalis was born on April 5, 1914 in San Francisco, California to Greek immigrants Nicholas Stephen Saribalis and Maria Ladzoglou. Raised in Haight-Asbury-Divisadero area of San Francisco, he later earned a bachelor’s degree from University of San Francisco. He went on to attend dental school and opened his own practice. Married to Joanna Paras Saribalis, he and Joanna had three children: Marianne, Nicholas and George. Additionally he had one son-in-law Gregory Doukas and two daughters-in-law Alicia and Jennie Saribalis. Steve was a beloved “Papou” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being an active member of both the American Hellinic Progressive Association and Yerba Buena Angling Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and reading books – among other interests.

George Saribalis, a former San Rafael City Schools board member and owner of Saribalis Construction, has made a name for himself in both business and philanthropy. For his efforts to advance viable causes throughout Australia, he was recognized with an Australian of the Year award.
He served as chief legislative aide to Marin County Supervisor Damon Connolly and served on multiple boards and committees. In addition, he volunteered his time for organizations such as San Rafael Harbor Rotary, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Legal Aid of Marin and the Marin County Bar Association. An advocate for housing first and climate change mitigation strategies, he campaigned for Gina Daly and Sara Sackett during their May 15 runoff election victory.
George Saribalis is renowned for his amazing career, as well as being an incredible father and grandfather. He genuinely cares deeply for all of his children, nieces and nephews.
He is renowned for his charitable work. As a founding member of Ahepa, he has been involved with numerous nonprofit organizations over the years.
He was a dentist and served in the US Army during World War II, earning himself many accolades along the way. One of his more remarkable successes was installing California’s largest dental implant – something which took him three years to accomplish. Furthermore, he enjoyed collecting small objects; the most difficult part about his collection was deciding which ones to keep and which ones to donate.
