Early Life and Education
George is a delightful fourth grader with an adorable mom and older brother. She enjoys reading teen magazines and dressing as girls, though this is kept from her family. At school she faces bullying from some boys for being a girl; luckily for her best friend who also happens to be female; they do a play together! But things are not going well for George so she confides in her best friend for support.
I absolutely adored this book and think it would make an excellent choice for kids to read. It clearly and simply explains transgender identity without needing experts on the topic, which was refreshing. Although marketed towards middle grade readers, I didn’t find it to be too young or tweeny in any way – just an encouraging story about accepting yourself as you are.
