Professor Herring joined Fresno State in 2007 following a long tenure at Stage One Theatre Company in Louisville, Kentucky, where he directed over 75 productions including six world premieres. Additionally he directs for StageWorks Fresno and Good Company Players theatre companies where he received their Provost’s Promising New Faculty award.
Early Life and Education
Daniel Herring was born March 4th 1812 in North Carolina. In 1844 he married Mary Deck in Madison Illinois before migrating to Texas via Peter’s Colony land grants and 640 acres. While some were located within Collin and Dallas County boundaries, Herring chose the highest point on his property for building. First a log cabin, then around 1862 a large two story frame home that now lies along Sunset Drive in Murphy was constructed there.
Herring, an associate professor of dermatology at Fresno State and director for StageWorks Fresno and Good Company Players (GCP), also serves as principal at Erwin Middle School nearby – offering classes related to dermatology as well as acting as principal there.
Personal Life
Daniel Herring was an renowned local horticulturist and vineyard owner. Known for his variegated apple and grape vines as well as tobacco plants, he donated land for Herring Hogge Cemetery in 1870s and came with William Sachse’s group who settled Collin County; five of Daniel Herring’s descendants later married William Sachse descendants intertwining both families in Murphy and Dallas counties’ history.
He was a loving father and grandfather who took great delight in watching his grandkids’ various activities. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Melisa Sue Herring; sons Tim Daniel and Ricky Dale as well as daughter Melisa Ann Hodges as well as Frances Runnels and Rosie Tigue as siblings as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandkids, nephews, nieces.
Professional Career
Daniel Herring specializes in medical, cutaneous surgical and cosmetic dermatology in Cumberland, MD at UPMC Western Maryland and practices at Cumberland Family Practice Center. He has experience treating various dermatologic conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea, moles warts skin cancer lesions.
Herrington began his professional racing career with Jensen Motorsport in Formula BMW USA series. Additionally, Herrington took part in 2005 Star Mazda Series and 2007 Firestone Indy Lights Series competition for SpeedWorks Racing and BHA Motorsports respectively.
She specializes in employment litigation and represents clients bringing claims under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). Her experience includes representing employers and individuals facing discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims; plan sponsors in litigation matters regarding ERISA litigation or counseling issues.
Achievement and Honors
Herring has received several honors during his time at UT Southwestern, including being named a Regents Outstanding Teaching Award recipient for 2019. As part of this award he received a plaque and medallion to acknowledge his academic prowess and mentoring talent; additionally he trained more than 200 orthopedic fellows and an estimated 400 residents during this time.
Herring’s extensive contributions include editing the third and fourth editions of Tachdjian’s Pediatric Orthopaedics textbook as well as authoring over 40 peer-reviewed articles on pediatric orthopaedics, earning national and international awards such as Arthur H. Huene Memorial Award and Stuart L. Weinstein Clinical Scientific Paper Award.
He teaches at Fresno State as well as being a company member of STAGE ONE in Louisville, Kentucky where he has directed multiple productions. Additionally, he has worked with Good Company Players of Fresno.
