Defocate

Obstructed Defecation Syndrome – What is Defocate?

Obstructed defecation syndrome is a complex problem with a variety of causes and symptoms. The treatment is usually holistic and does not require any invasive corrective surgery. A person may require additional treatments depending on the root cause. For example, some people may need to treat rectal hyposensitivity, a condition that causes a person to be sensitive when defecating. While surgery is an option, it is often not a long-term solution for this condition.

The word defocate comes from the Latin term defaecare, which means to “clean away dregs.” In 1849, the excretory sense of defaecat became common in medical writing. It is derived in Latin from de (down) + foex, -cae–, which means “dregs”.

Two sphincters are located around the anal canal and can be used to induce a reflex to urinate. The internal anal sphincter is an involuntary muscle and the external anal sphincter is a skeletal muscle. When the two muscles contract and relax, the person is stimulated to defecate. This causes the fecal matter to be retrogradely transferred into the rectum. The fecal waste then is stored until the next mass peristaltic movement.
