Early Life and Education

As a child in Newport News, Virginia, David Vick had an intense love of football that his father Michael Vick shared. Vick learned the fundamentals from Michael himself as an experienced college and professional player himself.

After graduating high school, he joined Virginia Tech’s football program as a freshman. In his inaugural year he led them to an 11-0 season and made history by leading them into the Bowl Championship Series national title game against Florida State.

David Vick made an immediate impact upon joining the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League after his college career ended, throwing over 10,000 yards over his first two seasons and earning both an ESPY Award and Archie Griffin Award as college football’s most valuable player.

Professional Career

David Vick made history during his National Football League (NFL) career by revolutionizing the quarterback position. He became the first quarterback ever to rush for 1,000 yards in one season while also becoming one of the greatest dual-threat quarterbacks ever.

After his college career at Virginia Tech, he was chosen by the Atlanta Falcons with the first overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft and quickly established himself as a star performer, winning three Pro Bowls while leading his team to two playoff runs and an NFC South championship title.

Vick was effectively ousted from the NFL after pleading guilty in 2007 to operating an illegal dog fighting ring known as Bad Newz Kennels. Although most have forgiven Vick since, some still will never forget what he did there.

Achievement and Honors

Vick received the National Kitchen and Bath Association Remodeling Specialist specialty badge in 2009. This honor recognizes homebuilders and remodelers for outstanding work they have completed throughout the year.

Vick received the Ed Block Courage Award from former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy for his commitment to faith and personal integrity as a college football player, as well as membership in the Humane Society of the United States.

Vick attended Virginia Tech on a full scholarship and excelled as a freshman, throwing for over 400 yards and running for 300. Additionally, he served as team captain.

Personal Life

Vick had an extraordinary personal life. A famous athlete, he later served a prison term for involvement in a dogfighting ring.

He met many inmates who remained loyal and trustworthy during his incarceration; these people were genuine, honest, and brilliant individuals who understood him very well.

He soon began to know them well enough to form relationships with several.

He found many honest, welcoming individuals who made his time easier in prison.
