Early Life and Education

David was raised in a small town of West Central New Jersey. At nine years old, he began cooking but soon after switched to art. To further pursue it, David attended classes at the Arts Students League of New York and collaborated with Utah artist Steven Lee Adams.

He went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a joint degree in Economics and Art History. In 2013, he joined Sotheby’s as Head of Contemporary Department and Co-Head of Marquee sales; additionally, his role includes overseeing efforts by the company to identify and champion emerging art markets. Through his leadership role at several landmark Sotheby’s auctions – including The Macklowe Collection which achieved $922 million across 2021-2022 – he has contributed significantly towards success in these fields.

He was an avid collector of trucks and motorcycles. In 2011, he opened Newport Consignment Gallery and Rags to Riches thrift store in Costa Mesa for business purposes.

He was an exemplary man of selflessness and philanthropy, dedicating his time to numerous charitable causes. In addition to donating two vintage tractors to the historic Wagner Farm Heritage Museum, he raised funds through auctions for Disabled American Veterans (DAV). A loving husband and father, his smile always shone no matter what life had in store – he will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
