He made history when he became the youngest Marine ever to ever perform the iconic cake cutting ceremony at an annual Marine Corps birthday ball. Over his career he amassed many awards and recognition.
He loved the Marines and would proudly tell anyone who asked that to be considered an authentic Marine, Parris Island is where one must begin their training as well as perform the famous “cake cutting” at Marine Corps birthday balls! He strongly believed all Marines must possess the ability to perform this tradition!
He leaves behind his wife Carol, daughters Amy (Nate Keller) and Jessica Loken, stepdaughters Wendy Horn and Sara Franzose and five wonderful grandkids – he will be deeply missed by family, friends and colleagues. He was an irrepressibly joyful presence who understood that politics is about building alliances through collaboration and addition.
Dan was an attentive father and husband. He leaves behind Carol as well as daughters Amy Keller (Nate) Keller and Jessica Loken (Greg Sopiarz), stepdaughters Wendy Horn and Sara Franzose as well as many grandchildren he was an exceptional uncle for.
He was an active participant in his community and longtime member of Rotary International. Additionally, in 1998 he served as president of the San Joaquin County Bar Association.
At Neumiller & Beardslee, his practice focused on public agency law for special districts and employment matters as well as foreclosure law and eminent domain/inverse condemnation matters. After merging his firm into Weaver & Schroeder in 2009, he retired in 2018 – having lived all his life in Stockton.
