Dingman has over two decades of management experience and currently holds the post of deputy city administrator in Fort Smith. Robert has earned a Master’s of Public Administration from Baker University and worked as a management intern with Bonner Springs, Kansas while attending graduate school. Additionally, from 1999-2003 he served as assistant Sebastian County administrator under Judge David Hudson.
In August, the city council selected Dingman as its top candidate to fill an empty seat until November’s elections. He will face fellow applicants Victoria Ferrer and Craig Wigginton in the primary. To cap off this event was a special edition of Pitch Dingman – the monthly competition where student entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investment staff and entrepreneurs-in-residence for up to $2,500 start-up funding!
Achievement and Honors
Dingman has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on organizational administration, measurement and evaluation, sport management, health kinesiology and coaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels at SAU. In 2014-15 he won the SAU Faculty Excellence Award for Service. Furthermore he serves on multiple department, college and university committees.
He was appointed to fill a vacant spot on the Battle Ground City Council until after November’s election results are certified by Clark County.
Judge for the Pitch Dingman business competition and enjoys working with students on their innovative ideas, he and his wife Robyn are major donors to the Dingman Center; with their help we have awarded over $50,000 in awards since 2004.
Personal Life
Dingman was an active public figure who fulfilled his civic responsibilities with gusto. He served on both the city planning commission and council’s public safety committee; additionally, he regularly attended every city council meeting possible.
He served as a presidential elector, voting for James Monroe. Additionally, he was active within the Democratic Party and built a hotel in Hawley – known as Dingman House after.
Dingman married Mary Westbrook and had six children together; Martin W. Dingman and Daniel W. Dingman Jr were their namesakes. Additionally, Cornelia was his sister. Dingman died in 1862 and is interred at Hawley Cemetery as part of his memorial.
