Early Life and Education

Furthermore, Maria Bicknell’s grandfather threatened her inheritance if she chose a penniless artist as her partner.

Constable sought to capture the subtle interplay of light and movement in his landscapes through full-size preparatory oil sketches that helped him coordinate motifs, balance light, shade, and colour, and coordinate his use of brushstrokes – often showing dark strokes slashing across cumulus clouds – that created the appearance of movement and light in his work.
