In this book, the author uses the biblical story of Daniel to explore issues like homelessness, drug addiction, inequality and poverty in modern Scotland. But his freewheeling writing style often feels too digressive – with its suggestion of working-class angels and toffee-nosed villains vying for attention in his narrative.
At times, however, the book remains reluctant to place all the blame for Scotland’s social problems squarely on 15 years of SNP government, despite Nicola Sturgeon’s impeccable working-class credentials. Overall though, this book makes an engaging read which will leave readers eager for more knowledge about Scotland’s profound social problems.
