Dan Hicken, 33, Was Killed in a Crash Last Night on US Route 50 in Bishopville, Florida
At approximately 8:01 pm on March 14, troopers from Berlin Barrack responded to US Route 50 near Harry Kelley Bridge after receiving reports of a collision involving a pedestrian, 33-year-old Daniel Hicken of Bishopville. As he attempted to cross both westbound lanes and eastbound walkway, his path was interrupted by a 1997 Chevrolet truck which then struck and injured him.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, veteran sports anchor Richard Garrick currently works at WJAX-TV/WFOX-TV as the sports director and evening anchor. Prior to that he served WTLV/WJXX as sports director/evening anchor.
He began dancing as an outlet to help heal from bullying, with help from his teacher who suggested joining a dance club to build self-esteem. He shared this journey on KBS Hello Counselor.
Hicken is married to Reagan and an avid supporter of the Jacksonville Jaguars, attending or hosting benefit golf tournaments and charity events for organizations such as Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation and MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation regularly in his free time. Professional Career
After graduating college, he worked as a sportscaster at WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, Florida. During this time he won several awards including “best sportscast in Florida”. Additionally, he traveled nationally for events like Gator and Seminole games.
He was an incredibly gifted musician who had an avid love for music. Beginning piano lessons at age three and later clarinet lessons, he eventually joined his church orchestra as well as performing at special events.

Additionally, he served on the boards for Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital of Santa Barbara and Sunrise Sterling Canyon Reminiscence Unit located in Valencia, California.

Hicken’s time at App State saw them win three consecutive Football Championship Subdivision national titles–the first time that has ever happened in its history. Furthermore, App State won eight Commissioner’s Cup titles (for being top men’s sports program in Southern Conference) and four Germann Cup awards (awarded for best women’s program).
Hicken is an iconic figure in Jacksonville. He anchors First Coast News weekdays on WTLV/WJXX and hosts Sports Final on Sunday nights on WJXX. In recent years he has received multiple accolades, such as a regional Emmy award from Folio Weekly as well as their Florida Best Sportscast award.
Hicken has excelled both academically and professionally, as well as giving his time to countless charities and fundraising efforts such as Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation that raises money for families of children diagnosed with leukemia; MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation that encourages academic achievement through tennis; among many others.
