Conrad Roy Jr. Runs the Boston Marathon to Help End Suicide Awareness

The death of a loved one is a painful experience and can be difficult to come to terms with. Trying to come to grips with this tragedy is especially difficult for a family that was already in the throes of grief. The loss of a child is especially tragic because of the void that is left behind.

The death of a son or daughter is especially heartbreaking, but the family of Conrad Roy III was not spared the pain of the loss. The media was captivated by the story of the teenager who killed himself in a carbon monoxide filled truck. His father was unable to fully process his loss and had to endure a series of painful legal proceedings. It was a grueling process for the Roys, who clung to the hope that their son was not alone and that they would find some kind of closure.

Although the circumstances surrounding Conrad’s death have been thoroughly investigated, the Roys have been unable to find some sort of comfort or closure. For instance, Carter, the woman who encouraged his suicide, was sentenced to 15 months in jail. However, Roy Jr. has been able to find a way to use his loss to benefit others. He has found a good outlet for spreading the word about suicide awareness.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has partnered with Bob Ross to promote the best of both worlds. Ross is a runner himself, and has been able to reap some benefits from his hobby. This includes a free class in exchange for a donation. The AFSP is currently raising funds to aid in the fight against suicide. It requires a minimum of $11,000 to qualify, but the organization is on track to meet its goal. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has a web site where the public can donate.

Aside from donating to the AFSP, Roy has also decided to run the Boston Marathon. His goal is to raise $25,000 for the cause. He has been training since January, and is hoping that he can achieve this lofty objective. Considering he finished the Frosty Runner 10.5-mile race in Rochester, New York in January, he has been able to put some serious miles under his belt. He has already raised more than $16,000.

Aside from promoting suicide awareness, the AFSP has a number of other programs to help individuals and their families cope with the loss of a loved one. There are free resources for those who are thinking of committing suicide, as well as a list of hotlines and other services that may be useful. It is a cause that deserves all the attention it can get. The AFSP has a webpage where the public can learn more about the organization and how it can help them. The site contains the most important info about AFSP’s programs, a glossary of terminology and statistics, as well as the best place to donate.
