York relies on Bo Thomas as an all-round player and team leader, carrying most of their offensive load at first base and catcher respectively.
Thomas was an esteemed Hollywood biographer and published several books, such as one on Disney. An avid collector, Thomas also enjoyed reading history books. But his favorite activity was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Professional Career
Thomas entered the theater world after graduating with a BFA in music theatre from Elon University. She has since performed on Broadway and other major stages, earning recognition from her alma mater for her commitment to arts education.
Thomas was honored with selection to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 90s after serving 11 years with the Chiefs. During that time he led them to first or second-place finishes in AFC West ten times while making seven playoff appearances.
Bob Thomas began his professional career as an area fisheries resource scientist in Nebraska’s Sandhills district before transitioning into his current position of Statewide Management Supervisor upon departmental reorganization. Over half his life he has been actively engaged in conserving and managing Nebraska’s sport fishing resources for sport fishing enthusiasts.
Achievement and Honors
As a scientist, Thomas published 48 peer-reviewed journal papers that examined the impacts of oil spills on marine wildlife, leading him to travel Alaska for 30 summers to conduct his work. Thomas was also an outstanding teacher, mentor and advisor; helping over 100 students gain admission to medical school while serving as faculty advisor of the Pre-Med Association.
Thomas successfully led his swimmers to 45 MAC individual championship titles and seven league relay championships during his coaching career, eight All-MAC First Team selections and 17 All-MAC Second Team honorees – two of whom, Rick Winegardner and Tanner Barton won the prestigious Bob James Award; additionally he was recognized with being named MAC Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year by his peers. Thomas is survived by his wife and two sons.
Personal Life
Bo Thomas was an acoustic and electric guitar player, harmonica player, singer-songwriter and traditional western music composer who performed as part of Whiskey Moon String Band and Modern Day Troubadours.
He was an adoring husband, father, son and PawPaw to his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is the author of nine CDs. His most recent release “My Tree”, features ten original songs including “Heroes”, which disproves myths that Gene Autry, Roy Rodgers, Hop-Along Cassidy weren’t real cowboys; “The Drift”, detailing the Green River Flood; and “Why”, an examination of General Custer’s attack. Additionally he published “Walt Disney, The Unschooled Cartoonist”, his definitive biography of Walt Disney.
