The murder of Cameron Faling, a 45-year-old man, on Thursday night has led to the arrest of his girlfriend Averil Beliveau. Police have said that the two had been arguing over marijuana and chores in the days leading up to the crime. Beliveau is charged with second-degree murder. She is also being held without bail in the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington, Vermont. According to the Associated Press, a blood-soaked apartment where the two lived was found a day after the attack.

When police arrived at the scene, the man had been killed. They also discovered that Beliveau had left the body in the apartment. It had been two days since she had last visited the victim. That is why authorities are confident that the death was not the result of a drunken brawl. Instead, it was a premeditated murder.

When the investigation was done, it was revealed that Beliveau had purchased a knife weeks before the crime. In a 911 call to police, she claimed that she slit her boyfriend’s throat in self-defense. However, evidence does not support this claim. One of the forensic experts in the state told the Associated Press that the real motive behind the crime had to do with the fact that the victim did not help her buy pot.

On Monday, Beliveau appeared in court by video, pleading not guilty to one count of second-degree murder. Her attorney did not immediately return a call for comment. Despite her lack of answers, there are some questions still unanswered, including whether she had a sex affair with Faling and if she had a drug problem.

Police say that Beliveau’s behavior is a red flag. She is not only incompetent, but could be a danger to the public. Earlier this month, Beliveau suffered eye surgery. The surgeon was supposed to sew the eye in a larger size, but instead opted to shave it down. At first, Beliveau believed she had lost her eyesight, but later realized she had been misdiagnosed.

As a matter of fact, Beliveau slept in the same room as her dead boyfriend. This is in stark contrast to a common practice in which a woman sleeps in her husband’s bed after a violent breakup. But that isn’t the only odd detail. Another is that the alleged murder was carried out while the pair were engaged in a sexfight. Apparently, Beliveau is not the only woman in the building, as at least one other woman was spotted sleeping in the bedroom as well. Whether or not this is a coincidence is unknown.

According to Beliveau, the aforementioned sexfight was just a precursor to a more serious argument. Eventually, she and Faling fought, and she says she was choked by him. From there, she allegedly cut his neck with a knife she stowed behind her. Although the aforementioned is likely to have been a gimmick, the fact that she did it in the presence of law enforcement is certainly a feat.
