Amoy Walker Named Teacher of the Year at Atlanta Girls’ School
Georgia Independent School Association has named Amoy Walker, a Teachers College alum, the 2020 “Teacher-of-the Year”. Her class is studying The Giver, a 1993 novel about a dystopian society where people are forced to conform to the same standards and practice ritualized murder. Her students first hunt online for Time magazine covers from the past, as they would if they were reading the novel now.
The Atlanta Girls’ School recently named Amoy Walker its Teacher of the Year, a prestigious honor. GISA presents the award every year to Walker for her outstanding teaching and service in class. She teaches sixth- and seventh-grade English at AGS and is the Middle School Curriculum Coordinator. Walker holds a B.A. Walker holds a B.A. from Stony Brook University, and a Master’s from Teachers College at Columbia University.
