Adam Gomes – A Memorable Life

On a dark night 13 years ago, two Casa Grande High School classmates, Jonny Gomes and Adam Westcott, tragically passed away after being involved in a car crash. Their deaths left an entire city reeling with sorrow.

Adam was an energetic youngster with a wide-open spirit who often helped others out and was wise beyond his years. Additionally, he excelled at sports and had many friends.

Early Life and Education

Gomes was an accomplished high school athlete and former minor league baseball player before going on to establish Via Brasil Steakhouse near Summerlin as his own restaurant business.

He leaves behind his mother Winy Gomes and father Demarcus Moore of Brockton as well as stepson Carl Mars of Brockton; 3 month-old Cario Mars from Brockton; 5 year-old Arya Gomes of nearby Arnone; his grandparents George and Diva Semedo as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from throughout the country.

His accomplishments were many, but most notable among them is his capacity for friendship, parenthood, work ethic, competitive spirit and philanthropy. According to his parents he excelled at sports, academics and philanthropy – excelling both personally and in sports and academics alike. Additionally he enjoyed learning new things and sharing it with others – something his achievements exemplify.

Professional Career

Gomes was a professional baseball player for 14 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), playing over 200 career games across different organizations such as Tampa Bay Devil Rays/Rays, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals between 2003 and 2016.

After graduating from Santa Rosa Junior College, he signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as part of the 2001 MLB Draft and served as a starter from 2002 through 2006; also winning World Series gold with them in 2007.

In 2008, he became embroiled in a bench clearing brawl between himself and Boston Red Sox catcher Coco Crisp after pushing her down, ultimately being suspended for five games as a result of their physical altercation.

Adam Gomes was an upstanding young man whose accomplishments speak for themselves. From engaging with older neighbors to helping the homeless or serving as a judge, Adam always worked to do what would best benefit those around him.

His mother noted that his way of dealing with life revealed him to be wise beyond his years, noting also his athleticism and enthusiasm for gymnastics as traits he exhibited.

His family remembers that he was always having fun and doing something different, with an enormous heart who loved helping everyone he could. He was truly a remarkable young person whom everyone will miss greatly.

Adam Jayden Gomes was an independent young man with an eager desire to help everyone around him. A talented athlete, Adam also had an indestructible mind.

He set several goals, such as joining the military and helping those on the streets. Furthermore, he wanted to become a judge.

He enjoyed skateboarding and watching movies during his free time, while his mother noted he also had a deep-seated passion for history and was eager to gain new knowledge.

His mother described him as being kind, helpful and considerate; a loving brother to his sister as well as friends he’d made at school and always enjoyed spending time with his family.
